THREE PORTUGUESE STARTUP'S CHOSEN BY 16 INTERNATIONAL SPORTS TEAMS

29th Apr 2021

BBox Sports, FootAR and Full Venue, these are the Portuguese startup’s chosen to work with 16 International Sports teams, including the French Football Federation, Wolverhampton, SK Gaming, Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks, E1 Series and Deltatre.

For the second consecutive year, Hype Sports Innovation opened applications for the GVA2 program (Global Virtual Accelerator) where several international startup’s in the sports area are chosen by clubs, federations and companies in the sector, to present their solutions that will help them solve the challenges presented.

HYPE's vision is to impact people's lives through the power of sport and innovation. For Hype, these are the best ways to create a greater impact on the sports world. The idea behind this program is to build more than a sports innovation platform, but to build a community that involves startup’s, clubs and companies.

One of the Portuguese startup's chosen by 11 sports teams and companies present at GVA2 is BBox Sports, a startup focused on fan engagement, where through the development of official products linked to an Augmented Reality world, offers football clubs an engagement tool which allows clubs to connect with their fans. To create this connection, BBox created the LADS Collectibles, official collectibles of football equipments, where players, after installing the BBox Sports app (available on iOS and Android), come to life through Augmented Reality requiring only a mobile device. In addition to photographs and videos with players, BBox Sports offers fans visits to stadiums, museums, pitch as well as many other private areas to the public, such as lockers rooms. BBox Sports is already working with SL Benfica, Sporting CP and the Portuguese Football Federation and is closing now a partnership with River Plate (Argentina), FC Porto and Atlético de Madrid.

Another of the Portuguese startup’s chosen for GVA2 is FootAR, which focuses on the live experience of the sports fan. Through a second screen application, free of charge, users have access to personalized statistical data that are not available on conventional channels, such as, not only quantifying the number of shots in a football game but indicating the percentage that each of these they have to result in goals, calculated in real time. In addition, it fosters the experience among fans, providing tools for interaction between them, creating a virtual environment where they have access to various prizes, for interacting. A kind of game within every game. In this pandemic phase, fans who are geographically separated, find in FootAR a virtual room where they can watch together, bet, exchange impressions, and be rewarded. After validations by Clubs, Telecommunications Operators and Bookmakers, FootAR creates this environment, through augmented reality, accessible through smartphones, but already prepared for gadgets such as Augmented Reality Glasses, already announced for 2023 by Google and Apple, which promise to revolutionize the way we interact with the world.

And the third Portuguese startup that joined this program is Full Venue. Created to revolutionize the way organizations take advantage of the vast amount of data shared by their customers, FullVenue.AI is a Startup whose proposal is clear and based on calculating the exact probability of a customer purchasing a product, through the use of Artificial Intelligence. With this type of information, companies now have a platform to identify segments with a high propensity to purchase. Led by Tiago Costa, former Project Manager in the Digital area of the Portuguese Football Federation, FullVenue.AI is in its first year of activity and is already showing strong traction. Currently, he has already started a partnership with the Belgian Football Federation and Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Recently opened doors in two of the most powerful leagues in the world, the Premier League and the NBA, through the interest of Wolverhampton and the Milwaukee Bucks. In negotiations to close an investment Seed Round, FullVenue.AI will soon grow its team, and it is planned to open a set of opportunities for different profiles, in areas such as Data Science, Digital Marketing and Business Development.
